Time for SLFP to use the remote control-in the country’s interests

1. Maitri during his latter half when he and the unp were not getting on said that after the next elections, the slfp would be the party exercising leverage with the remote control in its hand
2. Prior to the 2019 presidential elections, slpp entered into agreements with the slfp to garner their support for their presidential election campaign
3. The agreements related to many matters including a clearly laid down number of nominations for the slfp at the parliamentary elections, a number of cabinet portfolios in the new government etc.
4. However even before the ink was dry  it became clear that the slpp did not intend treating the slfp as an equal and dignified partner in the coalition. 
5. Slpp spoken began humiliating the slfp at election meetings and went with various statements which clearly showed their intentions
6. At the Parliamentary elections the slpp did not keep to the agreement and did not grant the slfp the promised number of tickets for the slfpers to contest on the slpp led alliance list. This compelled the slfp to contest three districts including kalutara and nuwara eliya on their own.
7. During the campaign the slfpers at the grassroots continued to be treated badly and after the elections they were denied the number of portfolios that they were promised in the agreements entered into before the Presidential elections.
8. The slfp chose to accept the humiliation silently and have never spoken out regarding the failureof the slpp to honour their agreements.
9. Even senior politicians from slfp background are allowed to languish with rookie politicians being given power

15. When questioned by MS about port city, he said they had concerns but those had been addressed. They should have informed the people what the concerns and how they were addressed so that the slfp too willbenefit politically.
